Pakistan’s remittances have nearly quadrupled in 15 years. Who’s sending them has shifted too.
November 2, 2026

Remittances are close to 10% of Pakistani GDP
But the share has been changing in the past decades
In year 1983 , it was almost similar . In year 2000 it was 1% of GDP
More importantly Remittance has had a variable share in terms of earning foreign exchange measured in terms of % of export of goods and services. In 2000 it was only 10% of entire goods and services export. In year 2026 its almost 100% of the same value.
How has this remittance shaped and reshaped the Pakistani economy. Not just in numbers but also in lives lived across millions of households ? More understanding needed on this issue
