Pakistan's Tobacco Use — Monitoring & Intelligence Dashboard
Accurate and accessible tobacco use data is essential for effective public health planning and tobacco control policy. The GTSS Pakistan Dashboard presents consolidated national data on adult and youth tobacco use across Pakistan. Developed using official survey records published through the Global Tobacco Survey (GTS) program — the global standard used by CDC and WHO to monitor tobacco use and track tobacco-control indicators — this interactive dashboard transforms raw survey data into clear, visual insights for policymakers, public health researchers, tobacco control advocates, and the general public.
Explore Pakistan's Tobacco Use Data
The dashboard provides a structured overview of tobacco use patterns among adults and youth, drawn from the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) and Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS). Users can analyze:
- Trends in tobacco use prevalence over time (2014–2024, adults; 2013–2022, youth)
- Smoking and smokeless tobacco use patterns by gender, age group, and urban/rural residence
- Secondhand smoke exposure across homes, workplaces, and public spaces
- Cessation behavior, including quit attempts and healthcare provider engagement
- Media exposure to tobacco advertising and anti-tobacco messaging
- Public knowledge and attitudes toward the health risks of tobacco use
This helps stakeholders understand the shifting burden of tobacco use, identify at-risk demographic groups, and support evidence-based tobacco control policy.

Researchers, public health planners, and decision-makers can use these insights to:
- Monitor the size and trajectory of tobacco use among adults and youth
- Track the decade-long trend in adult tobacco use (2014–2024) and near-decade trend in youth tobacco use (2013–2022)
- Compare adult and youth tobacco use patterns side by side
- Assess progress against WHO FCTC and MPOWER tobacco control benchmarks
Disclaimer
The data presented in this dashboard is sourced from official Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) and Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) records published through the Global Tobacco Survey (GTS) program, in coordination with Pakistan’s Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, CDC, and WHO.
Respondent-level microdata was available and used directly for GATS 2014 (adults) and GYTS 2022 (youth). For GATS 2024 (adults) and GYTS 2013 (youth), respondent-level microdata was not publicly available at the time this dashboard was built; figures for these two survey rounds are drawn directly from the official published fact sheets and codebooks rather than calculated independently. All prevalence estimates are weighted to be nationally representative, consistent with official survey methodology. Full indicator definitions are available in the Methodology & Definitions section of the dashboard.
