The New Provinces Debate in Pakistan
September 17, 2026

Students interested and applying to medical colleges is declining in Pakistan
Official data is hard to find. Even those officially given the task do not release coherent data let alone release a fact based analysis on what is happening.
Gallup Pakistan Digital Analytics we step in to plug that gap to extent possible.
Data from various news reports from this year and past years suggest students appearing in MDCAT is on a steep decline .
The number has been falling consistently over the past many years.
Is it the cost of medical education (both fees and the rather long period of depressed earning ?) or some thing else (attraction of other subjects) or an institutional / structural change?
Would be crucial to have this debate not only from perspective of education and private universities but also from public health. We are already starved of trained doctors . A large proportion of Pakistanis seek care from quacks or semi qualified medical practitioners . Is the situation soon going to get worse?
A debate is needed and before that a coherent data released by PMDC on what is happening.
