Quit Pakistan Phenomenon and our usual interpretation
Every few months data released by Bureau of Emigration is quoted to suggest that educated Pakistanis are leaving the country.
The data from the same source however suggests the largest majority of those leaving are elementary job seekers . In fact the category of labourer is where a vast majority falls and there has been little movement in this since Pakistan started exporting manpower to the Gulf countries in 1970s.
Other job seekers are likes of masons , carpenters , painters which are semi skilled jobs .
Pakistan fails to provide jobs to educated Pakistani (here i mean those educated in formal sector). Yet very few are actually able to leave the country because that is not what is in demand in large numbers in the destinations Pakistanis are usually moving i.e Gulf.
Gallup Pakistan Digital Analytics we are trying to make hard facts known to people so our conversations are based on evidence and not just hunches . A number of dashboards have been generated to understand the phenomenon of who is leaving and to what destination on our website.
