Foreign airlines had more than 65% share in Pakistan’s international aviation traffic in terms of customers in 2025 , in 2004 things were much different

Looking at international airline traffic from Pakistan for (2023-2024) using Gallup Pakistan Digital Analytics dashboard on aviation accessible here.

A few clear patterns stand out

1/ PIA had less than 20% share in the international aviation travellers from Pakistan

2/ All other Pakistani airlines had 15% share with airblue being largest at around 9%

3/ Pakistani airlines had only a third of the share which meant Pakistan was losing curcial forex to foreign airlines

4/ In 2006 , the share was close to 50% with PIA alone having 44% of the international traveller market from Pakistan

Decline of PIA has not only meant loss of forex for Pakistan but also loss of tax payer money

Its also sad to see private local carriers not being able to cash in the moment.
