When Food Prices Make the News, Look at the Inflation Basket

When data quietly gets it right.
Took an Airblue flight from Karachi to Islamabad recently.
Before heading out, I checked the Flight Monitor developed by Gallup Pakistan Digital Analytics.
Based on historical performance of this airline, on this route, during these hours, the dashboard suggested the flight would likely be ~30 minutes late.
I’ll admit — I was skeptical.
But that is exactly what happened.
This wasn’t a weather alert or real-time disruption.
It was simply pattern recognition from operational data:
• airline behavior
• route-specific performance
• time-of-day delays
• historical punctuality trends
No drama. No prediction theatre. Just probabilities playing out.
It’s a small reminder of how applied analytics, when grounded in real data and realistic expectations, can quietly improve decision-making — whether for passengers, airlines, regulators, or planners.
Sometimes the most powerful insights aren’t flashy.
They’re just… accurate.
