How Urban is Rural Pakistan?

New evidence from World Bank in Pakistan suggests that we have been significantly undercounting our urban population.

Using satellite imagery , World Bank says an alarming 88% Pakistanis live in areas which have characteristics that usually Urban areas have . This is significantly different from what Pakistan Bureau of Statistics census data suggests which says even in 2023 urban population was only 39% of Pakistan.

Data also suggests that we are significantly more urban than even India .

Most of Gallup Pakistan data even dating back to 2005 suggested that concpetions about Rural as being not a major market for FMCGs and for private education was not substantiated by data we were collecting.

Pakistan needs to improve the data streams we have to understand a fast changing Pakistan
