Death by age in Pakistan
January 16, 2026

Washing Machine :Steady rise in ownership across Pakistan and washing machine is not the only asset Pakistanis have been able to afford in past two decades.
Across-the-board growth in household assets
Using PSLM / HIES data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, washing machine ownership in Pakistan shows a clear and consistent story over the last fifteen years:
Growth across every segment.
Nationally, ownership increased from about 43% in 2010–11 to nearly 58% by 2024–25.
And this growth is visible everywhere:
• Urban areas: from around 72% to about 80%
• Rural areas: from around 29% to about 45%
• Punjab: from around 44% to about 63%
• KPK: from around 45% to about 69%
• Balochistan: from around 31% to about 50%
No region or province shows long-term stagnation.
What this tells us
Washing machines have steadily moved from being a luxury item to becoming a common household appliance across Pakistan.
Despite economic cycles, inflationary pressures, and external shocks, households across the country have continued to upgrade their living standards.
This also explains the increased demand for electricity in past decades . Washing Machine is only one electrical asset added in large numbers in Pakistan. Fans , air coolers , refrigerators , ACs , lights are other basic ammenities Pakistanis were able to add through their hard earned money.
Those who spin narratives of despair seldom loose sight of this large improvement . 2019-2025 has only seen slowing down of this growth and can be explained by large external events that affected the entire globe not just Pakistan.
Not every thing is perfect but things are improving in Pakistan if you take the 25 years time frame.
