Suicide rate in Pakistan
January 16, 2026

Death is never too far: literally
In Pakistan, death risk is high at birth, rises again sharply after 40, and remains substantial even in youth — life is uncertain at every stage.
1️⃣ The double burden is unmistakable
Infants (<1) alone account for more than one in five deaths
At the same time, 40+ accounts for nearly two-thirds of all deaths
Pakistan is fighting early-life survival and chronic ageing simultaneously.
2️⃣ The “shouldn’t-be-dying” group is now visible
454,000 deaths between ages 5–40
That’s:
~415 deaths every day
~17 deaths every hour
~1 person every 3–4 minutes
These are children, teenagers, young adults — from accidents, violence, infections, maternal causes, and undiagnosed disease.
3️⃣ Age 40 is clearly the fault line
Deaths jump from 454k (5–40) to 732k (40–60)
The health system loses people just as productivity peaks
This is the NCD entry zone — heart disease, stroke, diabetes.
