Where Pakistanis Die — and what gender differences quietly reveal and how women might be facing discrimination in death as well
Gallup Pakistan Digital Analytics we have converted Demographic Health Survey conducted by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics into a dashboard.
From that data set this cross-tabulation of place of death × gender highlights an uncomfortable but important reality about end-of-life care in Pakistan.
Gender difference exist but does it mean systematic bias? More research is needed to understand . This post is only to point out what can be explored further.
🔹 Home remains the primary place of death
62% of female deaths occur at home
56% of male deaths occur at home
This suggests that women are more likely to die without reaching a health facility, pointing to gaps in access, mobility, decision-making power, or delayed care-seeking for females.
🔹 Men are more likely to die in hospitals
40% of male deaths occur in hospitals/clinics
Compared to 36% among females
This difference, though not massive, consistently reflects how men access institutional healthcare more often, even at the final stage of life.
🔹 Deaths on the road are disproportionately male
Nearly 4% of male deaths occur on the road
Versus under 2% for females
This mirrors higher male exposure to traffic, occupational risks, and public spaces.
